We decided to finish up this small area of SE before heading to NW for a bit. Started at Jackson Park School and headed down 9th St. Did a small loop around Montrose and Murray and headed towards Jamison Ave. Now it was a straight shot all the way to Vinton. Not much going on today as we headed towards the Roanoke border. We came to Tinker Creek Greenway and saw the Purple bag thing again, so we decided to investigate further. Turns out these things are some sort of insect zapper device. It attracts insects and they stick on the outside of the panels. Only seen two so far. Continued towards Vinton and walked a nice section where the trees were hanging over the sidewalk. I believe we went pass the Roanoke border but we didnt see any signs so we just walked to the Vinton Welcome sign and turned back around. Got to our car and went home. Short walk today.

Zapppp.

Had to start at Towers Mall today since I had to drop off a laptop that I fixed for a friend. Hit Brandon Ln. and noticed it turned into a driveway pretty fast so we headed back towards Towers. Turned onto Brandon Ave. Went pass The Bazaar and noticed this purple bag, that seems to us, was some type of Lantern Bag, does anyone know what these are? John mentioned he saw another one earlier near our friends house on the Fallon Greenway.

Lantern Bag?

Continued onward and crossed over 581 until we hit Franklin then we turned around and hit Winston Ave. Pretty neat streets as some were like alley ways. Sanford St. was a alleyway but it had a street sign so we walked it. Hit Brandon again and turned left onto Colonial Ave. We pass by, we assume, the smallest park in Roanoke and hit a few side streets.

Wave!

Nice park!

Continued on down and wouldnt you know it, we saw another red hydrant. Maybe these arent so rare after all. Im counting them anways. Saw a group of people having a party in their back yard. We exchanged glances and waves. Went pass Fox21/27 and turned back around and hit 23St to Winthrop. I told John a story about BB guns. Something I did in the past here. Walked around the corner and back to my Jeep.

Our 4th.

Ok, started at 7-11 and walked up 9th to Penmar. Hit Pechin and continued to Wilson St. As I said before this is a hilly area. We saw another red hydrant! That will make three.

Rolling hills.
Our third!

Headed down Woodrow and hit 9th again. On the way to Morehead I noticed the road sign was gone. As I turned around to take another look John was last seen running with it. We would of fixed it but it was missing two screws. Went on Morehead until we came to the corner of Wilson. This is where that cute puppy was that we didnt get to take picture of it. But now we did and good timing as the pup had his front paws on the back of another dog.

Funny

Road sign bandit.

After playing for a bit we continued onwards to Morgan and back our cars at 7-11. A very short walk in this hot weather.

Hot day for a walk. Parked at my moms again and walked around her area starting on Morningside. Continued until Montrose and headed towards 9th. Heard a band playing in the nearby Jackson park. Saw another red fire hydrant! Headed back on Penmar and saw Johns brothers house. The girls decided to drink their water in front of it. Hit the two side roads and finished up Penmar and Langhorne.

Our second RED hydrant.

Hit Morningside again and continued all the way to Morgan hitting the side roads as we went. We came across, what we think is so far, the smallest house we seen. I will have to compare it to the other one we saw on Riverdale, but I think this is the winner. We passed a Elementary School and KK started playing in the Fire Chiefs car. After messing around we saw the cutest and nicest dog so far, but I didnt get a pic!

Five Alarm!

Has to be the smallest!

Gotta tell ya again that this area is very hilly. Always a hill somewhere and today we ran up every hill we saw. Just to make it more fun for us all. By the time we were heading back to the car we were tired. Continued onwards to Wilson St. and hit back on Morningside. From there it was home free back to my moms house and to our cars.

Started at Fallon Park School and headed towards Stewart Ave. This time Shane was with us as we went on our adventure. We actually passed his home on our walk and another house that was being redone. It had a viking ship on the back porch but the pic doesnt show it.

Rebuilding.

We continued and got confused on where to go once we got to Dale Ave. as Google maps were outdated. So we threw in another street on our route and continued back to our original route. We were discussing the old days when we say a alley and Shane mentioned this alley will take us back to his other house. I remember that section since this is where we had band practice back in the day. We also walked a street where I remember seeing John and Dave the first time in their metal days. We finally came across Daves house who was also in the band with John and myself. We still hang. Went in and got him join our walk. He just finished running about 3 miles but he went with us.

The Alleyway which leads

The legend...Dave

After Shane showed us his Guitar that Dave was painting we headed outside and to Indian Village. Lots of kids out and when we came thru they stopped and starred for about 15 seconds then went back to what they were doing. We headed towards Vinton and over a neat bridge. Finally got to the border of V-Town and headed back thru Indian Village towards 18th St.

Headed down 18th St and back to the School. We hung for a bit and I had to leave for my sisters house to check on Ricky and Bobby. Nice day to walk and hang out with friends.

Alrighty, we picked up from Greenbrier Ave and headed up Fallen to Autumn Ridge Apts. Seems no one was there but it looked like a nice place. We hit a trail on the back and went thru an alley back to Greenbrier. Saw a new sidewalk on the way. Continued on Greenbrier until we hit Kenwood Blvd. and backtracked once we hit the greenway. Did a few loops around and headed back to our car. Not much going on and I forgot my camera, so no pictures today.

Shane "Steinberger" joined us today. This was the a difficult  route to plan as we do not want to backtrack unless we have to. Started on Kenwood and Shane did a pullup on one of the telephone bars. Continued to Greenbrier and then to Clay St. John decided to run up this hill, so we followed. At the top was a great view and a tall radio tower.

Shane the man.

Nice views
Headed on down to Lawrence Ave and another cat comes out to play. Shane does the duty and we head on around. No one knew where we were at this point except me. John and Shane were asking where are we? Didnt we go down this road? Blah.blah.blah. It was quite funny. We headed back around to Clay St to finish that road off and we came upon a red hydrant. I really dont think I have seen a completely red hydrant in a looong time. First one we came upon in our travels. While we were walking on Clay we saw nice pool in someones back yard. The owner of the house came out and said "What are you doing?" "Why are you snooping around?". I replied we are simply walking! She storms back in. Is it a crime to walk on a sidewalk/street? We laughed it off and continued onward to 15th St.

Fire Metal!

On the way we saw my wifes grandmas home. Shane saw a big sickle like stick and whack it on the back of Johns head.

KKs G-Mas house

Sickle you to death!
On some street we saw for the second time a Omega Meats truck. John pointing at me like I wanted some steaks. The van stops and asks, Do you eat meat? We said no and they went on. We thought it was the same people we saw yesterday in  the same area. Decided to walk in the alley on the way up to 15th St and it was Ok at first but it did get overcrowded with plants and trees. A big dog came out of nowhere and barked scaring Shane to death. On the way back to the car Shane and I decided to do more pull ups on another bar. Whew...we had a eventful day.
3..4..

Sis joined us again for todays walk. Started at my mums house and turned onto Tayloe. Sun was beating down and we were sweating already. Not many people on this street so nothing to report. On Murray Ave. a Knight was guarding ones home.

Moms house.

Halt!

Continued in the area and a meat truck stopped to talk and sale us some chicken, steaks etc but we refused since we had no money. We dont carry cash/cards on us while we walk. We leave that stuff at home. We were now seeing more people doing their yards or sitting on the porch. One guy said "What are you  looking for?", as we passed him. His beer was sitting next to him as we chatted about the home for sale next to him. Left and went down 12th St and a cat started walking to us. We thought it would run away but it came right up and followed for about a block.

Curious.
A lot of hills are in this area, more so than anywhere (so far) so we were getting our exercise today. Saw a lot of homes for sale as well, at least 2 per block. Finally made our way back to Tayloe and up Miami back around to our starting point and headed home.

Over the bridge...

Picked up on Bennington and headed towards Dale Ave. Crossing over the bridge there was a device that checked the quality of the water. Hasnt been tampered with surprisingly. Got to Dale Ave. and decided to check out the Pawn Store. Saw a few guitars/amps but nothing that cought our eye.

The River.
Local pawn stars.

Headed back out and passed Fire Station 6 and took a right. Saw a public garden area on 14th St. and a rabbit. We were heading towards Craigs grandmas house and wondered if she was home. I havent seen her for a long time. We headed around the corner and saw her trimming away on her yard. I yelled Gladys and she came around the corner. We spoke for about 15 min about squash, vegetables, cokes, peanut butter cups, Chad, Craig and the Public Garden. It was a delight.

Craigs G-ma.

Continued our way back to the Jeep and came to a section where the road turns right and goes in a small square section then turn right back around and back out. We entered this area known as 13 1/2 st. and did the dogs bark! All 7 of them in only 3 houses. Neighborhood watch was in affect for this area. Hurried around the area and walked back out. Headed to Tayloe Ave and back over the bridge from once we came to my Jeep.

Square.
